Project Kalinga is also just one of the many initiatives of PTS through the scholarship Special Training for Employment Program (STEP) that aided the construction and completion of the project through Training Cum Production.
Passi City Mayor lawyer Stephen A. Palmares led the awarding of the new house to Nay Elvira on August 27 as part of TESDA’s 27th anniversary celebration.
Major Vincent Bangal of the Philippine Army 552nd Engineering Batallion, Supervising TESD Specialist Mrs. Ofelia dela Cruz and Passi City Trade School Vocational School Administrator III Dr. Janette F. Alcarde also attended the event which was followed by the awarding of certificates to STEP trainees.
STEP is a specialty training program of TESDA that intends to provide skills and training opportunities for beneficiaries in the villages to make them employable and productive.
Some of the selected Unit of Competencies delivered in qualifications during the training included Carpentry NC II, Shielded Metal Arc Welding NC I, Electrical Installation and Maintenance NC II, Organic Agriculture Crops Production NC I and NC II, Cookery NC II and Bread and Pastry Production NC II.
“STEP Program shall continue and expand to the less fortunate members of the community and TESDA is here to partner with us,” Palmares said.
He also promised Nay Elvira that he will help her son for the medication expenses and seek help to Passi City Medical Team for a physical check-up.
He also sent DSWD boxes (assorted food supply) for the families in the purok.
The PTS family acknowledged the support of partners and Brgy. Buenavista Community for making this dream home of Nay Elvira came true.
On a separate activity, PTS distributed booklets on proper hand washing and maintaining physical hygiene to protect against corona virus disease 2019. They also gave health kits and food packs for the kids and youth of the community. (TESDA 6/laf/PIA 6-Iloilo)
