Making the cut during the pandemic

Just before quarantines, lockdowns and all other pandemic wordlist come into fore, an enterprising Capiceña opened a salon out of passion and dedication to her craft of making others look and feel at their best.

This was the Cute Cuts Beauty Salon in Brgy. Poblacion Tabuc in Maayon town. It has etched the style  of high-end cuts and hair care at reasonable price which lifted the patrons confidence since it started in operation on October 9, 2019.

It is being owned and managed by beautifician Rosie F. Herman, who proved that even a pandemic  could not stop a person from thriving thru a bagful determination and a passion for what he or she is doing.

The new salon came as a sequel to Herman's six-month old salon in Roxas City which closed down months due to stiff competition, high operational costs and lack of business plan.

Under a new location and a new business name, Cute Cuts Beauty Salon envisions to empower women of all ages to feel confident in their own skin by offering high-end cuts and hair care at a reasonable price.

“Being a salon business owner has given me the freedom to be who I am, to do the things that are important to me, to see

where I came from and believe that I will continue to achieve success,” she said.

The owner started as a backup hairdresser in a low-cost chain of salons in Roxas City earning only the bare minimum wage per day.

The pandemic came and tested again the core of her business, but this time she is stronger and wiser.

The uphill was conquered with the help of the Negosyo Center's micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) growth - oriented programs.

She joined the Kapatid Mentro Me - Money and Market Encounter mentoring program through the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and Go Negosyo initiatives.

"The project really helped me a lot in scaling up my salon business," she noted.

Part of the program is providing MSMEs with intensive coaching and mentoring sessions by industry practitioners/business owners of different functional areas of entrepreneurship.

She has also been a beneficiary of Pangkabuhayan sa Pagbangon at Ginhawa program of DTI which enabled her to receive additional tools needed for her salon business.

Indeed, the determination and passion have ushered her to get into the accessing government resources that the stylish haircuts and a wide array of salon service continue even during the pandemic. (JBG/AAL/PIA Capiz/JDJ-NegosyoCenter- Maayon)
