Free PSA birth certificate brings joy to a 70-year old birthday celebrant

On his 76th birthday, Juanito Saet Nemiada of San Joaquin town received his best gift ever – the first copy of his certificate of live birth in security paper (SECPA) from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) – Iloilo.

Nemiada was one of the 45 unregistered Filipinos who have finally received their certificate of live births in SECPA through PSA’s PhilSys Birth Registration Assistance Project (PBRAP) implemented in partnership with the Local Civil Registry Office of San Joaquin town.

Also, grateful to receive their live births were siblings, who are both Persons with Disabilities -- 53-year old Sergio Servano, who has difficulty in walking, and 55-year old Paulita Servano, blind. According to them, the live birth certificate this is one of the requirements to claim benefits from the government.

On the other hand, after securing her live birth certificate, Paula Semiano Notada proceeded to process her Step 2 Philsys registration.

In a press report, PSA-Iloilo said the 45 beneficiaries came from the villages of Bucaya, Danawan, Ginot-an, Igcabutong, Lomboy, Camia, Poblacion, Panatan, Taslan and Dacdacanan having the most beneficiaries numbering to 22.

PSA-Iloilo OIC-Provincial Statistics Officer Jerry Dolutan, Municipal Civil Registrar Leo Satana, PBRAP Agents Nelyn Huyong and Ma. Christine Calibara awarded the free certificates of live birth in SECPA to 22 PBRAP beneficiaries from the village of Dacdacanan, where the awarding ceremony was held on October 19.

Dolutan said the first PBRAP awarding ceremony in the province is another achievement for the PSA. He is very enthusiastic to reach their goal to register at least 40,190 unregistered Filipinos in Iloilo province before the year ends.

PBRAP aims to ensure that all Filipinos should have their birth registered with the local authorities and will be provided with the legal documentation thru the issuance of the birth certificate.

It also intends to strengthen the documentation of Step 2 registration of PhilSys

The primary target beneficiaries of PBRAP are the unregistered Filipinos belonging to the indigenous peoples (IPs), Muslim Filipinos, marginalized sector and those in remote or Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged Areas (GIDA) including those living outside their place of birth and were hampered by registration fees or lack of documentary requirements.
