ANGELES CITY (PIA) -- The city government of Angeles eyes to achieve herd immunity against COVID-19 by November this year, as it beefs up its vaccination program.
In his 2nd State of the City Address (SOCA), Mayor Carmelo Lazatin Jr. said that aside from the city government’s designated vaccination center at the City College of Angeles, it has also tapped the assistance of the Department of Education to allow the use of the Angeles City National High School in order to inoculate 6,000 residents per day.
“With the current capacity of 6,000 pax per day, it will just take us a maximum of five months to attain herd immunity. I am also proud to announce that the Department of Health (DOH) has given Angeles City a ‘green status’, meaning our inoculation system is very efficient,” he said.
The mayor stressed the need to protect families and loved ones from the danger of COVID-19 as the current situation of cases in the city is still inconsistent.
“I am encouraging you all to get vaccinated. Be part of the solution. Let us fight the virus by advocating a herd immunity. It is only when most of us are vaccinated can we be truly safe from the virus,” he said.
To achieve this target, Lazatin said the city allocated P203 million to procure enough vaccines for its residents, which was sourced out from the revenue allocated in the city’s Supplemental Budget No. 1.
Aside from this, the city also allocated a total of P52 million for storage, generator sets, computers, database, tents, air coolers, and auxiliary supplies to be used for its vaccination program.
To further ramp up its jabbing efforts, Lazatin said they also established a database from the online and household surveys conducted in the city’s 33 barangays to help in identifying those belonging to the higher key priority group in administering COVID-19 shots based on the issued guidelines by the DOH.
“Since we want to fully vaccinate all members of the senior citizen community, two mobile buses will be deployed to vaccinate our 462 bedridden seniors. If it is necessary to conduct house-to-house vaccination of our elderly, the city government will not hesitate to do so,” Lazatin said.
As of June 29, a total of 43,921 Angeleños or 11% of the city population have received their first dose while 6,420 Angeleños had been fully vaccinated. (CLJD/MJSC-PIA 3)
