However, he clarified that, since wearing of face shields is a policy in the Philippines, the public needs to follow it as one of the standard protocols set by the government.
"When I travelled to the Philippines, I saw many people conversing with each other without physical distancing and their facemasks are not properly positioned, either not covering their nose or being under their chin," he said.
He also stated that too much use of alcohol is not recommended. Instead, hand washing properly and frequently is one of the best things to do to avoid being infected by the virus.
The doctor also explained that physical distancing needs to be observed at all time as the severity of infection depends on the viral load that is transmitted to a patient.
"If you are so near to a virus carrier, the tendency is that you inhale more viral load, which will result into the development of symptoms, while if you are at a distance, the viral load will be less," he said.
Jurado also stressed that intensive information drives on understanding the virus is highly recommended, especially to those who still do not believe in the existence of COVID-19.
Furthermore, he said that vaccinations in the US have greatly contributed to the decline of COVID-19 cases.
However, he recommended further studies to evaluate the long term efficacy of the vaccines due to an obervation he had with some of his patients wherein their bodies produced very high amounts of antibodies after inoculation, but decreased gradually after a few months.
"The main reason why COVID-19 cases in US declined is that a lot of people got vaccinated. So if you are vaccinated, you have antibodies. It lessens the transmission," Jurado said. (JKC/OTB/PIA-Cagayan)
