Biliran health frontliners allay fears over COVID vaccines

NAVAL, Biliran (PIA) -- At the PIA-Biliran’s Pulong-Pulong ng Bayan program over Radyo Natin-Naval, Dr. Ralph Bueno, medical officer of Naval Rural Health Unit, encouraged Navaleños and Biliranons to prepare themselves before receiving their COVID-19 vaccines by taking enough sleep, eating healthy foods, and drinking plenty of water.

On the day of vaccination, Dr. Bueno advised them to wear their face masks and face shields, maintain social distancing, bring their own snacks and meals, and relax while waiting for their turn to be given the vaccine shot.

Biliran Provincial Health Office Health Education and Promotions Officer Vanessa Ramirez said adverse reactions are but natural occurrences.

Moreover, she enumerated the possible adverse effects that may occur following vaccination.

Observed adverse reactions include fever, injection site pain, headache, body malaise, chills, numbness, dizziness, elevated blood pressure, nausea, itchiness, vomiting, and rashes.

Dr. Edgar Veloso, Biliran provincial health officer said that some of the common reasons for vaccination refusal in the province of Biliran are the fear of side effects, misinformation that the vaccine causes death; death and hospitalization among those vaccinated; and transportation concerns especially for senior citizens.
