CALOOCAN CITY, (PIA) -- The Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila (PLM) marked a milestone on Thursday, July 8 as 200 members of its faculty, staff, and some dependents received COVID-19 vaccines.

A total of 200 Sinovac doses were provided by the Manila City Government. Vaccination teams from the Manila Health Department through City Health Officer Dr. Arnold Pangan converted the University Activity Center into a pop-up vaccination center on Thursday.

The vaccination process started at 8 a.m. Vaccination teams were able to inoculate 108 employees and 92 immediate family members with their first vaccine shots inside the PLM campus.

They are scheduled to receive their second vaccine dose on August 5, 2021, which will provide full protection against severe coronavirus symptoms.

All vaccine recipients waiting in line were asked to wear their face masks and face shields properly and observe physical distancing at all times to minimize the risk of virus transmission.

A day before the vaccination schedule, PLM President Emmanuel Leyco personally encouraged University employees to sign up for the vaccines.

“Vaccination against COVID-19 is crucial in managing the pandemic,” he said in an e-mail to PLM personnel as he reminded all those who have not yet received the vaccine jab to already do so.

“We are grateful to Mayor Isko Moreno for his proactive leadership in addressing the COVID-19 pandemic in the city which included the aggressive procurement of vaccines, massive testing, and construction of COVID-19 field hospital. We hope that the City of Manila and the entire country can secure additional vaccine supplies so that we can protect more people against the coronavirus outbreak,” Leyco added.

“We are pleased with the turnout of PLM staff and their loved ones during our first COVID-19 vaccination drive. We hope more of them will be able to get the vaccines as soon as possible, as this is the way for us to return to normalcy and face-to-face classes after more than a year of restrictions.”

As the global health and economic crisis rages on, PLM reminds students, faculty, and staff to continue practicing minimum health standards at all times to reduce the risk of catching or transmitting COVID-19. (PLM/PIA-NCR)
