CAMIGUIN, July 2 (PIA)--Recording 81 confirmed coronavirus disease (COVID)-19 cases, July 2, inbound travel to Mambajao and Catarman by returning locally stranded individuals (LSIs) is temporarily suspended, July 1-5 and July 5-19, respectively.
“Despite nga karaan nga COVID [ang naa sa Camiguin], kuyaw gihapon. Bisan pag nag-two doses ka, kuyaw gihapon,” Gov. Jurdin Jesus Romualdo said during the Serbisyong PPR (Pagpauswag, Pagpalambo ug Responsableng Panggobyerno) radio program, July 2.
(Even if Camiguin only has the old variant of COVID-19, this is still dreadful. Even if you have already obtained two doses [of COVID-19 vaccine], this is still dreadful)
Romualdo said aside from implementing localized lockdown in specific areas in the province, the moratorium could further help in containing the spread of COVID-19.
As to the possible causes of sudden increase of COVID-19 cases in Camiguin, the governor said the virus may have come from the authorized persons outside of residence (APORs) or truckers who enter the province. "Ang mga truckers maniudto sa merkado; maniudto ug wala'y face masks ug face shields," he added.
(The truckers usually take their lunch in the market and they do not wear face masks or face shields)
With this, Romualdo reminds the residents, APORs and truckers in the province to always wear their face masks and face shields, and observe social distancing.
He also urged the priority individuals for COVID-19 vaccination to avail the free vaccines from the government, especially the senior citizens to achieve the province's 80,000 target vaccinees for herd immunity.
Based on last week's data, Romualdo said there are 6,073 individuals who were vaccinated with the first dose of AstraZeneca and Sinovac COVID-19 vaccines, and 1,911 individuals who got the second dose of the said vaccines.
As of July 2, the province has recorded 81 COVID-19 confirmed cases of which 67 are from Mambajao, 3 from Mahinog, 6 from Sagay and 1 from Catarman. The other four are availing the no quarantine policy.
Three deaths were also recorded in the province. There are 185 persons with history of travel or COVID-19 exposure of which 78 are from Mambajao, 47 from Mahinog, 5 from Guinsiliban, 8 from Sagay, and 47 from Catarman. (RTP/PIA-10)
