BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya (PIA) -- The local government unit here recently launched its Bamboo Development Project (BDP) to promote its use for livelihood and environmental protection.

Mayor Ralph Lantion said the highlight of the BDP launching was the establishment of bamboo nurseries within the town's barangays.

He said bamboo nurseries have been initially established in barangays Bansing, Paitan, Magapuy, Buenavista, Busilac, Magsaysay, Ipil-Cuneg, Cabuaan, Casat and Bonfal East.

"These nurseries will serve as sources of bamboo seedlings to be planted in critical areas of the Magat river and other inland bodies of water in our municipality inorder to prevent erosions," Lantion said.

He said continuing collaboration with national government agencies are also being done to source out needed interventions to provide livelihood for the villagers through the development of bamboo products. (MDCT/BME/PIA Nueva Vizcaya)
