Sagay Mayor Joseph Uayan said he has been regularly doing the activity, once or twice a week to strengthen the government's campaign on COVID-19 vaccination and respond to hesitancy of his constituents on the vaccines, during the Network Briefing News with Communications Sec. Martin Andanar, July 22.
Aside from doing the house-to-house information dissemination, Uayan also directed his barangay chairpersons to visit their constituents and correct the misconception of the people on COVID-19 vaccines. He also urged the leaders to be the role model and have the vaccine themselves once they are available.
Uayan added that he regularly provides updates to his constituents on the COVID-19 situation in Cagayan de Oro and in the province.
"Yung nangyayari sa akin na mayroon akong anim na local transmission. Plus 'yung isang bata na nakatira sa upland barangay na naadmit sa hospital and namatay kinabukasan, and found out to be a COVID positive. So updated po ‘yung mga tao ko. Doon nag-umpisa yung pagbabago sa isipan nila," he said.
(I had six local transmissions in my area. Plus the deceased child, who lived in the upland barangay, was found to be positive of COVID. My constituents are updated on such events. That is when they started to change their views on COVID-19)
For many months since the start of the pandemic, the town has recorded very minimal cases of COVID-19. Uayan said his being a nurse really helped in explaining to the people the nature of the virus as well as the benefits of the vaccines.
Currently, they are just waiting for the arrival of the vaccines as they have already obtained the list of individuals who are eligible to get the second dose of the vaccines.
The mayor also asked the barangay leaders to conduct house-to-house profiling as to who are eligible for A1, A2, A3 and A4 priority groups so the local government unit (LGU) can submit the required vaccines to the Department of Health (DOH)-10.
As of July 21, there are less than 500 individuals in the town who were already fully vaccinated with AstraZeneca and Sinovac. (RTP/PIA-10)
