San Juan City starts rollout of J&J vaccines

PASIG CITY, (PIA) -- The City Government of San Juan has started the rollout of the Johnson and Johnson vaccine.

San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora said that the city government has received 2,800 doses of the Johnson and Johnson vaccine. He said that said vaccines will be used for priority groups under the A2 (senior citizens) and A3 (adult with comorbidities) categories.

Around 600 senior citizens and adult with comorbidities received their one-time vaccine on Wednesday. Zamora said that A2 and A3 priority groups will also receive soon their Johnson and Johnson vaccine from the initial number of doses delivered in the city.

The local chief executive also reported that the city has administered a total of 109,066 vaccines for the first dose, while 43,703 were administered for the second dose.

Mayor Zamora said the city’s vaccination rollout for the first dose has reached 118 percent (118%) of the target population and for the second dose is at 47 percent (47%) based on the 2021 population projection of the Asian Development Bank.

From these data, he said that the city only needs to reach 53 percent (53%) or 49,155 individuals to be vaccinated to achieve a herd immunity. Zamora cited that with the J&J vaccine there’s no need to wait for the second dose.

Meanwhile, Zamora said that as of July 21, the city has 88 active cases of COVID-19.

Mayor Zamora added that he signed in the Metro Manila Council resolution to ask the IATF to temporarily suspend the decision to allow children five (5) years old and above to go outdoors.

Mayor Zamora also pointed the importance of getting vaccinated, aside from following the minimum health protocols to fight the dreaded COVID-19. (PIA-NCR)
