DENR establishes more bamboo plantations

QUEZON CITY (PIA) -- More than 14,600 hectares of bamboo plantations have been established in Central Luzon since 2012 through the Enhanced National Greening Program (E-NGP) of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), said in a recent post of the  DENR Central Luzon.

The National Greening Program (E-NGP) priority activities are rehabilitating 1.2 M hectares of denuded forest lands by 2022 and maintaining and protecting existing forests, said Environment Secretary Roy A. Cimatu.

Bamboo plays a vital role in developing disaster-resilient communities by rebuilding eroded soil and stabilizing critical areas against landslides. Bamboo propagation supports Cimatu’s order to rehabilitate river banks in the region and the Manila Bay, said DENR Region 3 Executive Director Paquito Moreno Jr.       (MCG/PIA-IDPD/DENR)
