NV DENR leads Env't Month celeb

BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya (PIA) - - The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) led last month's multi-sectoral tree planting activities in support of the Philippine Environment Month and Arbor Day celebration.


Edgar Martin, Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Officer said 800 narra seedlings were planted by their workers in barangay Bintawan Norte in Villaverde town.


"We are calling everyone to join our advocacy to plant trees in your respective communities to enrich our environment with trees. Let us do this in our own ways," he said.


Martin said their tree planting activity was participated by PENR Office and Sub-office personnel including officers and staff of MLGU Villaverde and BLGU Bintawan Norte.


DENR Mines and GeoSciences Bureau (MGB) Regional Director Mario Ancheta in a Tipon-Tipan social media Series of the Philippine Information Agency(PIA) regional office, also led mining companies in the region in reporting their gains and support to the national government's greening program.


He also urged mining companies to provide media practitioners in the region with their programs, project and accomplsihments in support of the greening initiatives of the national government.


In their Face book page, Nueva Vizcaya mining firm FCF Minerals Corporation in Quezon town also reported their contribution to the Philippine Environment Month and Arbor Day celebrations through tree planting activites joined by their 100 workers and several host barangays.


Their tree planting at their Radio Hill utilized 50 bamboo shoots to rehabilitate the site's stiff areas.


At least 110 Guyabano and Rambutan fruit trees were also planted at the hill while 200 Guyabano seedlings were also planted in barangay Darubba


The tree planting activity was undertaken as part of the series of activities conducted in celebration of Philippine Environment Month.
Proclamation No. 643 signed in 2004 declared every June 25 as Philippine Arbor Day to be observed throughout the nation by planting trees and ornamental plants.


In 2012, Republic Act No. 10176 or the Arbor Day Act was enacted into law, mandating local government units to designate a day of the year to observe Arbor Day and to allocate a budget for an annual tree planting activity.


The then President Corazon C. Aquino approved the Proclamation No. 237 on April 4, 1988, declaring the month of June every year as Philippine Environment Month and to give time and effort towards the protection, enhancement and development of the country's environment.
