LGU resolves concern on acrid smell, smoke from crematorium

TRECE MARTIRES CITY, Cavite (PIA) --The local chief executive of General Mariano Alvarez town immediately acted upon a concerned citizen’s call regarding the acrid smell and smoke from the municipal crematorium located near the GMA Garden of Memories Cemetery.

Mayor Maricel E. Torres reported that her office sent a letter to the administration office of the said facility to formally discuss and resolve the said problem last August 9 .

“Sa tinagal-tagal nang panahon na nag-exist ang nasabing crematorium sa ating bayan,   ngayon lamang  nagdulot ng masamang amoy at usok mula dito,” said Mayor Torres.

[For the longest time that the said crematorium existed in our town, only now did it cause a bad smell and smoke coming from it.]

According to the crematorium administrative staff, the increase in the number of deceased persons cremated is the main cause of the problem.

Back then, an average of four bodies are put into the machine. But since the pandemic broke, the number of bodies cremated averages to nine per day.

The meeting resolved the problem in two ways: the first is to build an additional chimney to properly dispel the smoke during the cremation.

Second is conduct maintenance of the facility more frequently, from the usual twice a month routine to twice a week.

During the public address, Mayor Torres appealed to her constituents to direct their concerns to the proper channels or offices concerned in order that these problems be acted upon and resolved immediately, and may not cause any misinformation.
