KORONADAL CITY, South Cotabato, (PIA) – The Philippine Information Agency (PIA) partnered with the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) to facilitate an on-site Philippine Identification System (PhilSys) registration for members of the local media.
Some 58 media personnel from radio, television, and other news outlets from the province of South Cotabato availed the opportunity to avoid long queues and fast-track their registration to the national ID system through the PhilSys kiosk installed at the PIA Regional Office XII on August 12.
PSA Regional Director Maqtahar Manulon said they conduct institutional registration or Mode 3 Registration wherein the PhilSys team will go to institutions to facilitate the registration to minimize crowding at their regional and provincial offices and discourage mass gatherings.
Signed into law by President Rodrigo Duterte in August 2018, Republic Act 11055, or the PhilSys Act, aims to establish a single national ID for all Filipinos and resident aliens.
The national ID shall be a valid proof of identity that shall be a means of simplifying public and private transactions, enrollment in schools, and opening of bank accounts.
It will also boost efficiency, especially in dealing with government services where people will only need to present one ID during transactions. (PIA)
