EO 70-target brgys in R-12 to implement 206 dev't projects

KORONADAL CITY, South Cotabato (PIA) -- Soccsksargen Region's P1.24 billon allotment from the Local Government Support Fund - Support to Barangay Development Program (LGSF-SBDP) of the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC) this year finances a total of 206 development projects, mostly infrastructures, identified by the beneficiary.

In 2021, 62 barangays across Soccsksargen Region were included among the 822 barangays in the country that received allocation of P20 million each through the LGSF-SBDP of the NTF-ELCAC under President Rodrigo Roa Duterte's Executive Order No. 70.

As a flagship program, the Barangay Development Program aims to address insurgency by bringing sustainable development and basic services to communities previously affected by communist terrorist groups.

At the 22nd Joint RTF-ELCAC meeting on October 29, Herminia Ontoy, head of the Project Development Monitoring Unit of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) XII, reported that as of October 25, of the 206 projects proposed by the 62 LGSF-SBDP funded barangays in Region XII , 15 were already being implemented; 37 were in the procurement stage; 63 were ready for procurement; and 91 were under preparation.

Among these projects are 176 infrastructure projects comprised of 68 concreting, upgrading or opening of farm-to-farm roads; 67 construction, rehabilitation, or improvement of level I, level II and level III potable water supply systems ; 19 construction of health stations; 9 construction of school buildings; and 13 rural electrification projects. The remaining 30 projects are non-infrastructure items such as capacity development related to agricultural development with distribution of livestocks, technical vocational capacity development to include provision of toolkits, and assistance to indigent individuals and families.

In the same meeting, TESDA Director General Isidro Lapeña, cabinet officer for regional development and security, urged local government to fast track the implementation of these projects.

"I know that the Christmas season is fast approaching. Let this be another motivation for us to complete the work we have planned for this year," he said.

This week, DILG XII holds a series of coordination meeting with the local government units of South Cotabato, Cotabato Province, Kidapawan City, Sarangani Province, and Sultan Kudarat Province on progress of these projects.

Hereunder are the projects where the 62 barangays in Region 12 will spend their P20 M LGSF-SBDP allotment.
