DENR donates plastic recycling equipment to Ilocos Norte

LAOAG CITY, Nov 26 (PIA Ilocos Norte) – The Department of Natural and Environmental Resources (DENR) Central Office donates new plastic recycling equipment to Ilocos Norte to augment plastic waste disposal in the province.

The recycling plant is located at Barangay Camangaan, Laoag City.

Mr. Hashler Garalde with Mrs. Estrella Baby Sacro of the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office lead the test-run of the plastic recycling equipment.

The recycling process will make plastic waste go through a shredder, a conveyer, a vacuum until it goes into the pyrosis process where the plastic is melted and turned into chairs.

Garalde said that the equipment can shred up to 28 kilograms of soft plastic, however, it cannot tatter hard plastics such as plastic bottles. The 28 kg of plastic can make one chair.

According to Garalde, Ilocos Norte Governor Matthew Marcos Manotoc plans on adding the recycling operation to be part of the Materials Recovery Facility project of the Provincial Government at the Municipality of Marcos.

He also expressed his confidence that the plastic recycling operations will speed up the disposal of plastic waste in the province. (JCR/EJFG/GCC, PIA Ilocos Norte)
