CAMIGUIN (PIA)—Garnering 47.86 total score in the 9th Cities and Municipalities Competitiveness Index (CMCI), Camiguin is named the third Most Competitive Province in the country tailing behind Rizal, Region IV-A (first) and Davao del Norte, Region 11 (second), December 14.
"Truly, standing among the country's most competitive provinces is a great pride for all of us. We feel very honored but stayed humble in our achievement," Gov. Jurdin Jesus Romualdo said.
Rankings of provinces are based on population and income weighted average of the overall scores of towns under the province.
Aside from the province’s feat, Mambajao is named the second Most Competitive 3rd-4th class municipality in the Philippines. Mahinog also bagged the fourth spot in the Most Competitive 5th-6th class municipalities along with Catarman (5th), and Sagay (10th).
On the pillars of competitiveness, Mambajao is the second Most Competitive 3rd-4th class municipality in Government Efficiency while Mahinog earned the third rank in the said pillar for 5th-6th class municipalities along with Catarman that spotted the 6th rank.
On Economic Dynamism, the towns of Mambajao and Catarman both landed on the fourth rank for the 3rd-4th and 5th-6th class municipalities, respectively. Economic Dynamism is associated with activities that create stable expansion of business and industries, and higher employment.
Showing resilience in infrastructure, governance, social, and environmental systems, Mahinog is named the third Most Competitive in Resilience for the 5th-6th class municipalities along with Sagay (7th) and Catarman (8th).
As to the physical building blocks that connect, expand, and sustain a locality and its surroundings to enable the provision of goods and services, Mahinog got the 8th rank in the Most Competitive Infrastructure for the 5th-6th class municipalities.
CMCI is an annual ranking of Philippine cities and municipalities developed by the National Competitiveness Council through the Regional Competitiveness Committees (RCCs). For the public sector, the Index can be used as a diagnostic tool by local government officials to assess the competitiveness of their city or municipality and identify areas for improvement and collaboration.
