DOTr activates 'Oplan Biyaheng Ayos' for May 9 polls

CALOOCAN CITY, (PIA) -- The Department of Transportation (DOTr) has mobilized a task force effective, 05 May until 10 May 2022 to ensure safe, reliable, and comfortable transportation during the conduct of the May 9 elections amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

The DOTr has activated Oplan Biyaheng Ayos: Implementation of Heightened Alert Status during the ‘National and Local Elections 2022,’ as stated in a memorandum signed by DOTr Assistant Secretary for Maritime and OIC for Special Concerns Vice Admiral Narciso Vingson Jr.

“All sectoral offices and attached agencies are directed to be on heightened alert status to ensure the health, safety, security, reliability, and comfort of passengers traveling during the observation of National and Local Elections 2022 particularly during this pandemic,” the Memorandum specifically stated.

With Oplan Biyaheng Ayos, all DOTr units guarantee the riding public safe, reliable and comfortable transportation, whether by land, sea, or air, as they proceed to their respective towns, cities, or provinces to cast their votes on Monday.

From May 5 to 10, all DOTr sectoral offices and attached agencies shall maintain their operations and conduct 24/7 coordination, monitoring, and real-time reporting of activities and incidents.

Desks, booths, counters, and centers serving passengers shall also be properly manned during operating hours to prevent long queues.

Public advisories and other informational materials will also be posted in various transport hubs to inform the public on the schedule of operations of the different modes of transport as well as safety and security precautions.

The task force also required the dissemination of safety tips, common types of violations, and safety/security regulations at airports, seaports, and other transportation hubs.

Meanwhile, the websites and social media platforms of the DOTr and its attached agencies will be updated on all matters concerning Oplan Biyaheng Ayos, for proper monitoring. (DOTr/PIA-NCR)
