BAGUIO CITY (PIA) -- The Department of Environment and Natural Resources - Cordillera (DENR-CAR) kicked off the month-long celebration of Environment Month this June through the Kapihan sa Baguio program  held on May 25.
 
To protect  nature  and  sustain the “land we live on, the air we breathe, and the water which gives us life”, the DENR CAR has lined up various activities to include the following;

On June 3, inventory, clearing, and pruning of trees that pose danger to lives and properties will be conducted in  major thoroughfares in identified barangays in Baguio City,  in coordination with the concerned offices.
 
"Alam naman natin na maraming mga namamatay na mga puno sa kadahilanan na matanda na and because infected ng mga sakit ng pine trees. And dahil parating na naman, month of June, July, ini-expect natin na merong mga bagyo, so it's but proper to do things to save lives and properties," said DENR-CAR Regional Executive Director Ralph Pablo.

In observance of the Philippine Eagle Week on June 4-9, the DENR-CAR will tap the Philippine Eagle Foundation Team to monitor the presence and health status of eagles in Apayao.
 
On June 5 which is  World Environment Day, DENR-CAR will  launch the Search for the Biggest Tree in the region. They are  also coordinating with the different sectors to advocate the protection and stewardship of the natural resources.
 
“Rivers for Life Week”  will be observed on June 5-9.   Clean  up drives  will be done  in the  different rivers regionwide. DENR regional office will conduct the clean-up at Gibraltar Creek which was adopted by the agency.
 
Synchronized tree planting activities will be conducted regionwide to improve watersheds on June 8 in observance of  World Ocean Day.
 
On June 9-24, the Photovoice will be launched with the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office - Ifugao. 

 The DENR will celebrate its 35th anniversary on June 10 wherein Family Day will be observed with the theme 'Pistang Pamilya ng DENR para sa Tuloy-tuloy na Pagkakaisa at Tagumpay'.
 
On June 13-17, Regional Office Environment Quiz, games and soft launching of Basura Buster will be conducted. The agency will also initiate a Forest Treat activity wherein they will invite  people's organizations to help them market their products.
 
“Kansyon di Cordillera and Exhibit” will be launched at Malcolm Square on June 17.
 
On June 20-24, HR at Your Service with the theme “Our Focus is You” will bring the different government services closer to the employees of DENR.
 
A regionwide tree planting, tree tending, and clean-up of watersheds will be conducted on June 25 coinciding with Arbor Day. Judging of entries for the Search for the Biggest Tree will also be done.
 
The celebration  culminates on June 30  with  DENR-CAR  recognizing its environmental partners, outstanding employees, best offices, and loyal employees. They winner  of the Biggest Tree search will also be awarded.
