DA awards hauling vehicle, Gulayan sa Barangay project to Besao FCAs

BESAO, Mountain Province (PIA) -- Farmer cooperative and associations in this municipality benefit from the Department of Agriculture’s programs with the turnover of a hauling vehicle and Gulayan sa Barangay project last week.


DA Cordillera Regional Executive Director Cameron Odsey led the awarding of    hauling vehicle procured under the KAtuwang sa DIwa at GaWA (KADIWA) program.  It will be used by the different FCAs   in transporting their agricultural produce from farm to market.


Under the memorandum of agreement signed between DA and the local government  unit, the  vehicle will be used to enhance the capacity of MLGU-Besao in delivering its services to the farmers and market linkaging programs, food reliefs and agricultural assistance,


For the Gulayan sa Barangay project, turned over to the beneficiaries were farming equipment worth P2 million which include rubberized plastic drums, rolls of water hose, agriculture power sprayers, trowels and watering kettles.


The beneficiaries of the project are identified members of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program in barangays Banguitan and Padangaan.


The Gulayan sa Barangay project is a partnership between the DA thru its High Value Crops Development Program and the Department of Social Welfare and Development.

Odsey   rallied the-beneficiaries to contribute in the economic recovery of the country by being productive. The Philippine economy has been affected the COVID-19 pandemic and the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine, and its recovery partially depends on the agricultural performance of the country.

“… menmula taku; adaduwen taku nan imula taku ken esesten taku ta dumakdakel kuma nan apiten taku tay sha sa nan puunan nan ekonomiya. Tay nu maiwed agriculture, intu nan mailaku? Intu nan mai-process ay foods? Sinu nan ka-en nan Pilipino nu maid agriculture(Let us plant;  let us plant many  and take care of them  so that   they will yield  abundantly    to  help  the economy. If there is no agriculture, what will be sold? what will be processed to foods? What will the Filipino eat if there is no agriculture? ” Odsey said.

Governor Bonifacio C. Lacwasan, Jr. thru his representative, Legal Assistant II June Pinayakan , conveyed his gratitude to the DA for their constant support to the farmers in the province.


On the other hand, Congressman Maximo Y. Dalog Jr., challenged the farmer beneficiaries to maintain and sustain the grant given to them. He said that the hauling vehicle and the gardening supplies and equipment should be used to serve their purpose.


DA CAR Regional Director Cameron Odsey stresses on the role of agriculture sector in the economic recovery of the country.

In response, Mayor Johnson D. Bantog II, together with the barangay official-representatives of Banguitan and Padangaan and farmer-beneficiaries assured in their respective acceptance speeches   the maintenance of the vehicle and productivity of the Gulayan sa Barangay Project.


Also present during the ceremony were Besao Vice Mayor June Lopsoten, MP Agriculture Project Coordinating Officer (APCO) Beverly T. Pekas, Assistant APCO David I. Sumalag, Agribusiness and Marketing Assistance Division Chief Joan D. Bacbac, Besao Municipal Agriculturist Dam-ay B. Guinayen, DSWD Provincial Coordinator Wilfreda A. Tayaban, and .Ramon B.
