TACLOBAN CITY  (PIA) -- As the nation celebrates the National ICT Month this June, the Department of Information and Communications Technology Regional Office 8 (DICT-8) hosted an ICT Month Caravan on June 23-24 at the Robinsons North, this city.

The two-day caravan was highlighted by the presentation of the different programs and projects as well as the services that the DICT had provided to the public.

Among the relevant services the Online Appointment System, PhilSys Birth Registration Assistance, VaxCert Generation, and Generation of PNPKI Digital Certificates.

During the caravan, local ICT companies and startups showcased their services and conducted job recruitment promotion.

On the first day of the two-day event, Felix S. Tabanao Jr. DICT-8 regional director, recognized and awarded various local government units for their best performance in the rollout and implementation of Vaccine Information Management System (VIMS) of the government.

The province of Southern Leyte was recognized being the Best Performing Province while the municipalities of Saint Bernard in Southern Leyte,  Hilongos in Leyte, Tagapul-an in Samar,  Giporlos in Eastern Samar,  Almeria in Biliran, and San Antonio in Northern Samar,  as best performing municipal LGUs.

The cities of Calbayog and Catbalogan were recognized as top performing cities in the region.

Special awards were also given to the city government of Tacloban as the Most Responsive Local Government Unit; Pinabacdao, Samar as Most Improved Local Government Unit; and Palo, Leyte as the Most Innovative Local Government Unit in the region.

The awarding was part of the month-long celebration of National ICT Month with the theme, “Spark, Strengthen, Sustain:   Advancing the PH Digital Agenda.”

VIMS is a system which centralizes important data from residents and health facilities of local government units to help track the supply, distribution and number of administered vaccines not only in the region but in the whole country as well. (MMP/CBA/PIA-8)
