Crime incidents decrease in WV

ILOILO CITY (PIA) -- The Police Regional Office (PRO) 6 recorded a 4.06 percent decrease in crime incidents in Western Visayas, which is equivalent to a difference of 441 incidents in the first semester this year compared to the same period in 2021.

In a press release issued by PRO6 Regional Public Information Office chief Police Lieutenant Colonel Arnel M. Solis, from January to June of the previous year, PRO-6 recorded a total of 10,849 crime incidents while this 2022, it logged 10,408 incidents.

In cases under the peace and order indicator, this year’s record is lower compared to last year, that is, from 5,926 incidents in 2021 to 5,154 this 2022. This equates to a 13.02 percent or 772 cases reduction.

All provinces and cities under this category recorded a decline, except the Province of Antique which has a minimal increase of only 11 incidents – from 347 in 2021 to 358 this year.

On the other hand, Iloilo City topped the number of declined incidents under the peace and order indicator with a decrease of 42.22 percent or 597 incidents, followed by Guimaras at 13.48 percent or 24 incidents; Iloilo Province - 12.04 percent or 155 incidents; Bacolod City - 9.23 percent or 54 incidents; Aklan - 3.96 percent or 19 incidents; Negros Occidental - 2.13 percent or 31 incidents;

and Capiz - 0.71 percent or three incidents.

Meanwhile, the incidents of eight focus crimes also lessened. From 1,444 in 2021, it went down to 1,278 this year, which is equivalent to an 11.49 percent decrease.

Cases under this indicator in all provinces and cities of the region went down, except for Capiz with a slight increase of 18 incidents or 11.92 percent.

The eight focus crimes include murder, homicide, physical injury, rape, robbery, theft, carnapping of motor vehicle, and carnapping of motorcycle.

With this, PRO 6 redirector Police Brigadier General Flynn E. Dongbo,  lauded the efforts of all unit commanders and all its personnel in the region for the collective contribution which resulted in the decline in the region’s crime incidents.

“Congratulations and continue assessing your respective areas of responsibility and address the peace and order concerns that are peculiar therein,” said Dongbo.

He also emphasized to his men to maximize coordination and collaboration with the local government units and other stakeholders to enhance our crime prevention endeavors “ensure that Western Visayas continues to be peaceful, livable and a safer place for its people.” (AAL/FRG/PIA6/Story and photos from PRO6-RPIO)
