Bohol towns with low vax accomp priority in next vax drive

TAGBILARAN CITY, Bohol, July 8 (PIA) -- The Bohol Provincial Government and the Department of Health (DOH) here would be prioritizing the upcoming massive vaccination for COVID-19 protection in towns that have remained at the bottom of the vaccine rollout.

During the recent Bohol Inter-Agency Task Force on the Management of Emerging Infectious Disease (BIATF) meeting, local officials agreed to cover as much of the senior citizens and insulate them against COVID-19, and to make sure over 600,000 Boholanos would be given their booster shots on or before Oct. 8.

Data from the DOH showed that Bohol has not been able to breach the 70% vaccination accomplishment, with only about 62% of its target population vaccinated to date.

Shared at a time when the data from the Emergency Operations Center here would show a COVID active case two-week growth rate of 100% in the past two weeks, the massive vaccination would be possibly the most effective measure according to BIATF.

Of the Bohol towns, only 20 and a city have logged over 70% vaccination accomplishment.

While BIATF clusters are back on the drawing board for another round of massive vaccination campaigns, Capitol officials are calling for the re-imposition of strict and proper wearing of face masks, practice social distancing, and stricter port of entry vaccination status inspections.

In the meantime, Tagbilaran City Health Officer Dr. Jeia Pondoc said their vaccination continues in the malls on weekdays, as the Capitol has also ended its fixed vaccination site at the Bohol Island State University.

Pending a new venue for a fixed vaccination, the BIATF has approved a suggestion to put up a vaccination site at the old Tagbilaran City Airport, the hub of activities for the Sandugo Festival this July.

With the Sandugo Festival season, Capitol has also announced it will re-impose a strict vaccination card inspection for entry at the Sandugo Festival grounds, with checkers posted at the venue entrance.

Apart from denying entry of unvaccinated people at the main venue of the festivities, a strict face mask and social distancing policy would also be implemented inside the old airport grounds, said Bohol Isang Dugo Foundation festival interim coordinator Ana Loinda Saluan. (RAHC/PIA7 Bohol)

With more people coming to Bohol according to PDRRMO Anthony Damalerio (extreme right), Bohol officials think it is proper to revisit the anti-COVID policies that work and re-implement them strictly.
