Regional EQ response plan working- CRDRRMC

BAGUIO CITY (PIA) - - The Cordillera Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CRDRRMC) Regional Preparedness and Response Plan for earthquake is working as planned, and  situation especially in Abra, the most affected province  in CAR by the July 27, 2022  magnitude 7 earthquake, is well managed.   

CRDRRMC Chairperson and Office of Civil Defense – Cordillera Regional Director Albert Mogol announced  this during a Kapihan media forum here in August 2.

CRDRRMC data show that the M7 earthquake has affected 88,622 families or 318,344 individuals across Cordillera region, mostly  in Abra.  It also caused the death of nine people and injuries to 374, and damaged 24,733 houses including 434 that were fully damaged.

As of August 2 data of the CRDRRMC on disaster response, around P86, 66 million worth of assistance have been provided to the affected population in the region, mostly in Abra.

 The CRDRRMC Response Cluster chaired by Department of Social Welfare and Development – Cordillera Regional Director Arnel Garcia along with its sub – clusters are focused in Abra, wherein aside from the management of the needed food and non-food items for the affected population, response activities are also looking into the concerns on temporary shelter; health and nutrition; security, law and order, emergency telecommunications and logistics, among others.

Mogol expressed gratitude to all the council member agencies, national government agencies and instrumentalities, non – government organizations and other private volunteers that helped in the immediate response actions. He calls for a continuing partnership for the fast recovery of the people and communities.

Meantime, Department of   the   Interior and Local Government – Cordillera Regional Director Araceli San Jose reminds local government units to remain vigilant and to enforce pre-emptive evacuation in areas that are highly susceptible to rain – induced landslides and flashfloods.

San Jose also encourage LGUs to use their quick response fund, which is 30 percent of their local DRRM Fund, to help address the needs of their constituents,  and also to ensure a timely and equitable distribution of food and non – food items to their people    in need  especially in geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas.

 The CRDRRMC, through the DSWD – CAR donation hub also accepts donations for the earthquake – affected population in Cordillera.
