1,687 Negrense beneficiaries receive educ'l assistance

NEGROS OCCIDENTAL (PIA) –- About 1,687 student-beneficiaries in Negros Occidental availed of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) – Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) for educational assistance during its August 27 payout in the different payout sites all over the province including Bacolod City.

More than P5.3-million were distributed to beneficiaries from elementary, high school, senior high school and college students who were qualified to receive the aid.

For the August 27 payout in Negros Occidental, there were 276 Elementary students, 226 High School students, 194 Senior High School students and 991 College students provided assistance, according to DSWD Regional Information Officer lawyer May Rago-Castillo, 

Among those who availed of the P4,000 assistance for college students is 35-year old Lilibeth Esportuno who, at her age strives to send herself to Catholic Ming Yuan College in Murcia town to finish her Bachelor of Science in Agriculture.

Esportuno registered on the link provided 

by DSWD online and 1 week later got an email that she qualifies for the AICS, which on August 27 she made her way to the payout site for assessment and was able to receive her assistance.

When asked what she intends to do with the assistance, Esportuno said she will have her cellphone fixed to equip her for her online classes and the rest is to buy her food supply that will sustain her as she attends her classes. *(AAL/EAD-PIA6 Negros Occidental)
