SAN FERNANDO CITY (PIA) – Health-related researches from the University of Northern Philippines (UNP) and the Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU) topped other entries in the recently concluded virtual 2022 Region 1 Health Research and Development Consortium (R1HRDC) Research Conference.
Dr. Mercita Queddeng, chairperson of the Research Utilization Committee (RUC) of the R1HRDC, said this year’s research conference was anchored on the theme: “People-Centered Health Research Towards National Recovery and Resiliency.”
Qualified entries for the conference were health-related research projects completed within the last three years and should provide solutions to priority health concerns identified in the National Unified Health Research Agenda (NUHRA) and Regional Unified Health Research Agenda (RUHRA).
The research forum was aimed at providing venue for students and professionals to disseminate the results of their research as well as to recognize and give awards for their work.
After the oral research presentation, the following researches were adjudged as winners:
For the student category: 1st Place - Brine Shrimp Toxicity and Anti-Inflammatory Activities of Psychotria Luzoniensis Leaf Methanol Crude Extract and Its Hexane and Aqueous Enriched Fractions conducted by Ms. Geraldine Joy G. Corpuz et. al of MMSU; 2nd Place - Formulation and Evaluation of Oregano (Origanum Vulgare), Lemongrass (Cymbopogon Citratus), and Karimbuaya (Euphorbia Neriifolia Linn.) Polyherbal Antibacterial Bar Soap conducted by Ms. Norianne S. Bolibol et.al of MMSU; and 3rd Place - Anti-Inflammatory Activity of the Crude Extract and Solvent Fractions of Bilagot (Schismatoglottis Merrillii) Leaves Using Carrageenan Induced Paw Edema in ICR Mice conducted by Ms. Lyzandra Vali Dumlao et.al, also of MMSU.
For the professional category: 1st Place - Journeys of the Hands That Care: Experiences of Medical Frontliners During the COVID-19 Pandemic conducted by Mr. Mark Christian Arizala of UNP; 2nd Place - Mental Health Status of Outpatients in the Drug Treatment & Rehabilitation Center of Dagupan City During the COVID-19 Pandemic conducted by Dr. Ulysses Cabatbat of the Drug Treatment and Rehabilitation Center (DTRC); and 3rd Place - Knowledge, Traditional Practices, and Medicinal Plants for the Treatment of Respiratory Ailments Among Ilocano Farmers conducted by Dr. Corazon Pardo of UNP.
Queddeng said winners received a certificate and cash prize from the consortium.
More than 100 participants from different member institutions of R1HRDC attended the online forum with the oral presentation of 10 shortlisted researches in which four are researches under the student category and six are under the professional category. (JCR/AMB/FGL, PIA-1)
