20 farmers from Mallig finish training on mushroom production

CITY OF ILAGAN, Isabela (PIA) - - At least 20 farmers who belonged to Kabute-han ng Malliguenong Magsasaka ng Mallig successfully completed a training on mushroom production conducted by the Department of Agriculture - Regional Crop Protection Center (DA-RCPC) based in this city.

The DA-RCPC resource persons Lovemar Morales and Jairra Macaranas, including President of the KABUTE-han ng Malliguenong magsasaka Association Cerilo Sumajit, Jr., shared the process of producing mushrooms from making polypropylene fruiting bags and raw materials.

According to Sumajit, mushroom production is profitable, as he acknowledged the assistance of DA-RCPC and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) for the production and marketing.

Sumajit is hopeful that the mushroom production in Mallig and its nearby towns will prosper, as raw materials like rice straw are available. The town of Mallig is a rice-producing town of Isabela.

He urged the farmers who have completed the training to use the knowledge and skills in mushroom production as more orders from local and even from international markets are on the pipeline. (MGE / PIA Isabela)
