TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan, (PIA) – In the recent two-day Trade Fair of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) at Robinson’s Place, clients were amazed by the creativity and passion of Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) as showcased in their craftsmanship in producing good and quality products.

Lina, a bag lover who happened to pass by in the trade fair area was amazed at the Bayong Bag, a product of the Ballesteros District Jail, and she cannot resist but buy one for herself.

She said she is a bag lover and the simple but elegant designs of the bag caught her attention and she believes it's durable.

For mothers who went on shopping, they went home with rags, dishwashing liquids, fabric conditioners, scented candles, coconut shell lampshades, facemask holders and coin banks with them while painting lovers took home some paintings and art crafts.

Bonsai beads, one of the most saleable products, were sold out and they need to get more from the jails.

JSSupt. Ma. Annie Espinosa said she is thankful for the support and patronage the community is giving to the products of the PDL garnering more or less P80,000 in partial sales for two days.

Aside from the on-the-spot sale, there are also orders made online and walk-in clients.

The Regional Welfare and Development Division of BJMP which takes charge of the livelihood projects of the PDL assures that the creation of the products is part of harnessing and developing the skills of PDLs allowing them to continue to hone their talents even if they are inside the jail.

The trade fair was just one of the highlights of activities of BJMP 2’s 31st Anniversary celebration.(OTB/GVB/PIA-Cagayan)
