CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro (PIA) – The municipal government recently distributed gilt pigs to the identified hog raiser beneficiaries in Puerto Galera. The beneficiaries received one gilt pig (Landrace F1) and one sack of grower feeds each as economic assistance provided by the local government.

In relation to the implementation of the program, the Municipal Agriculture Office (MAO) explained to the beneficiaries their obligations and responsibilities that they should do in taking care of the gilts until such time that these gilts become sows.  Likewise, the beneficiaries are obliged to sustain the feeds of these animals and return at least two female piglets after farrowing.

The program aims to raise the quality of domestic pigs as well as level of livelihood in the municipality by means of giving help and support to local farmers and domestic animal raisers.

Mayor Rocky D. Ilagan told beneficiaries to enrich the project in order to be a role model for other livestock raisers in the locality.  (LTC/PIA MIMAROPA)
