Aga Khan Museum exec: Meranaw Artisan Summit protecting local culture

MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur (PIA)--The first-ever Meranaw Artisan Summit in the province of Lanao del Sur was a great means of securing the culture of Meranaws here, according to Dr. Linang Cabugatan, the director of the Aga Khan Museum of Mindanao State University.

Cabugatan underscored that artists, cultural workers and creative officials restart, reinvent and reconnect themselves as they likewise struggle for their survival and living.

As such, she saw the successfully conducted summit as an avenue to deliver the needed support to ensure and sustain their existence.

Cabugatan stated that the event is one way of showcasing the commitment of the local government officials to gather concerted efforts not only to preserve and promote but to safeguard as well the culture of Meranaws.

She maintained that it is only necessary to provide a platform for artisans to convey and exhibit their craftsmanship

“This is to inspire and renew our appreciation for our Maranao culture and to galvanize all collective actions to rebuild the future we want for the Meranaws through harnessing the power of culture and arts,” said Cabugatan.

The museum director underlined that without aiding the artisans, improvement would not likewise come their way.

“Kung wala sa inyo at sa puso niyo na gabayan at suportahan natin ang ating artisans, walang mangyayari sa kanila,” said Cabugatan.

[If it is not in you or your hearts the urge to guide and support our artisans, nothing would happen to them.] (CRG/PIA-10/Lanao del Sur)
