CALOOCAN CITY, (PIA) – President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., will attend on Wednesday the National Information & Communications Technology Summit 2022 as guest of honor and speaker.
With the theme, “Toward a Citizen-Centric, Inclusive, and Sustainable eGovernance Ecosystem #BuildBetterMore,” the Summit will focus on the government’s digital transformation efforts in pursuance of the President’s vision of an inclusive and vibrant digital economy and a digitally empowered government and citizenry.
It can be recalled that President Marcos earlier emphasized the need for digital transformation as a tool for economic growth.
In his speech during the 77th United Nations General Assembly in September, President Marcos said the “knowledge and discovery” of science will “remain the keys to unlock the potential of our dynamic future.”
He said the country is also adapting to all “existing and emerging technologies” and using it as a preparation towards a modern economy.
“We also need to update the global structures that facilitate international cooperation on the peaceful uses of nuclear energy, biology, chemistry, to name a few,” he continued.
“At the same time, we need new structures to govern rapid advances in other areas. We need to start by defining the norms of responsible behavior in cyberspace and outer space and forming legal rules that will prevent the weaponization of artificial intelligence,” he added.
Traditionally, NICT Summit is being held in June of every year but was re-scheduled due to various government activities during the second quarter of 2022 including the holding of the 2022 National & Local Elections.
This year’s NICT Summit will be a hybrid event. Participants can join via an online platform or in-person at the Manila Hotel. (PIA-NCR)
