PSA brings PhilSys IEC Campaign Roadshow in Neg Occ

ILOILO CITY (PIA) - - The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) brought its Philippine Identification System (PhilSys) Information and Education Campaign Regional Roadshow in Bacolod City, November 9.

The Western Visayas leg of the roadshow successfully kicked off here in Iloilo City on November 7, participated in by around 150 budget officers, Information Technology personnel and PhilSys Focal persons from the various local government units in Iloilo including Iloilo City and nearby municipalities in the provinces of Capiz and Antique.

Also, representatives from national government agencies, academe and financial institutions attended the roadshow intended to help ensure the successful integration of PhilSys in all government processes, databases, systems, and services.

“We believe that the integration of PhilSys into services, processes, identification systems and databases of government can help improve the efficiency and transparency in the delivery of social services, enhance administrative governance, reduce corruption, curtail bureaucratic red tape to avert fraudulent transactions and misrepresentations. This will also strengthen financial inclusion and promote ease of doing business” said OIC Regional Director Nelida Amolar of PSA 6.

After Bacolod City, Amolar said the PhilSys IEC regional roadshow will be conducted in Kalibo, Aklan on Friday Nov. 11. Expected participants are from Aklan and from the municipalities in the northern parts of Capiz and Antique.

PSA was tasked to lead the implementation of Republic Act No. 11055 or the Philippine Identification System Act aims to establish a single national identification system for all citizens and resident aliens in the country

The valid proof of identity provided by PhilSys shall be a means of simplifying public and private transactions.

PhilSys shall also be a social and economic platform that promotes seamless social service delivery and strengthening of financial inclusion for both public and private services.

As a foundational digital ID system, it will transform how services are delivered and accessed in the country and accelerate the transition to a digital economy.

As of October 31, data obtained from PSA indicated that around 74.6 million Filipinos have already registered in PhilSys Step 2 that involves biometric capture and validation of supporting documents.

PSA Assistant National Statistician Emily Pagador said they were given a target by President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. to generate 50 million more of PhilIDs – 30 million physical and 20 million digital PhilIDs - by the end of this year.

Pagador said the digital ID or the printed ePhilID are issued in PhilSys registration centers as part of its proactive strategies for the implementation of the PhilSys. As of November 4, some 1.2 million ePhilID were already printed.

Soon PSA, according to Pagador, will also launch the mobile ID which can be downloaded on phones and will have the same bearing in benefits with physical and printed ePhilID.

Pagador joined the PhilSys Information and Education Campaign Western Visayas leg in the cities of Iloilo and Bacolod City.

Among the resource persons during the one-day event are Mitz Ann Montanez, Abigail Ling and Richeal Chua from the PhilSys Registry Office. (JBG/laf/PIA6-Iloilo)
