Underscoring the importance of adapting to the changing digital landscape, over 60 information officers from Northern Mindanao joined the session which aimed to arm the participants with knowledge and understanding of the nuances of online criminal activities and ways to prevent them.

Regional Anti-Cybercrime Unit-10 Officer in Charge Lemuel Gonda explored various ways on how cybercrimes operate such as internet fraud, child pornography, cyberattacks, ransomware, extortion, and phishing scams, among others, and methods on how the government is countering it.

In addition to the RAGCOM learning session, Gonda disclosed that they are closely working hand in hand with schools, private and public stakeholders, and government agencies in ensuring that the region’s online landscape is safe through digital literacy activities.

“In today’s digital age, cybercrime affects all of us directly and indirectly because as individuals we all have that information that is worth something to cyber criminals, we are living in an increasingly digital world, so it is important that we should educate ourselves about cybersecurity,” RAGCOM-10 President Merlyn Ybanez said.
