Students showcase health researches in NorMinCoHRD’s Conference

ILIGAN CITY (PIA)--Nine students from different parts of Region 10 showcased the results and findings of their research thru the Visual Abstract Poster Competition during the 5th Regional Health Research Conference spearheaded by the Northern Mindanao Consortium for Health Research and Development (NorMinCoHRD).

These students came from Bukidnon State University, Mindanao State University – Iligan Institute of Technology, Central Mindanao State University (CMU), Liceo de Cagayan University, and Iligan Medical Center College (IMCC).

Keith Julius Bautista from CMU won first place and P7,000 cash prize with his research entitled “2 Vs. 100 Varieties in 1 Species: New Medicinal and Molecular Discovery of the Philippine "Mayana". His study revealed that aside from alleviating colds, the Coleus Scutellarioides can be used in the treatment of anemia, asthma, pneumonia, dyspepsia, gas pain and flatulence, cuts and wounds, bruises, sprain, and contusions. 

Meanwhile, Prince Eroll Reyes from IMCC won second place and a P5,000 cash prize with his research entitled "Development of an X-ray shielding material based on eggshells and crab shells".  

Moreover, Earl Bryan Cordova from CMU won third place with a P3,000 cash prize and People’s Choice Award with a P2,000 cash prize. His research is entitled “Molecular Confirmation, Phylogenetic Analysis, Constituents, Cytotoxic and Antimicrobial Investigators of Omalanthus macradenius Pax & Hoffm. (Euphorbiaceae) Used by Agusan Manobo”. 

As one of the regional health research consortia of the country under the Philippine National Health Research System (PNHRS), NorMinCoHRD held the conference to provide an avenue for student researchers and professionals to showcase their studies in addressing health.
