LGU Padre Burgos in S. Leyte gets 'green banner,' other awards for nutrition

PADRE BURGOS, Southen Leyte (PIA) -- This municipality, through its Rural Health Unit (RHU), reaped the highest citation given to local government units (LGUs) for accomplishing at least 85% rating in its nutrition program implementation for the entire year.

Dr. Catalino Dotollo, Jr., regional nutrition program coordinator of the National Nutrition Council - Region 8, along with Dr. Exuperia Sabalberino, DOH-8 regional director, handed the 2021 Green Banner Seal of Compliance to Padre Burgos RHU in recognition for its lasting intervention to wipe off malnutrition among children in the municipality.

The 2022 Regional Nutrition Awarding Ceremony or Gawad Nutrisyon was held at Oriental Hotel, Palo, Leyte, on December 28.

In addition to the Green Banner Award, the town was also cited in a special award for its active participation in Monitoring and Evaluation of Local Level Plan Implementation Protocol (MELLPI Pro) for nutrition.

The town still beamed with pride when Dr. Fretzie Caplan Tomimbang, municipal health officer of Padre Burgos, was honored as Outstanding Municipal Nutrition Action Officer, and Ledesma Edillo of Brgy. Buenavista as the Outstanding Barangay Nutrition Scholar of the municipality.

Other awardees were Leodilin Ansale of Silago and Michelelle Marie Siega, outstanding municipal/city nutrition program coordinator of Maasin City, as well as Aritas Aguilar, the Outstanding Barangay Nutrition Scholar of the city.  (MMP/PIA Southern Leyte with reports from Dahlia Orit of Radyo Pilipinas Sogod)
