Antiqueña named ‘CSAFP’ scholar receives P50K grant

SAN JOSE, Antique (PIA) -- Advance Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) Cadet 1st Class/Lt.Col. Allia Fe O. Alejandro was selected as one of the six recipients nationwide of the Chief of Staff Armed Forces of the Philippines (CSAFP) Scholarship Grant.

Alejandro, a graduating accountancy student of St. Anthony’s College (SAC), is the sole recipient from Western Visayas of the P50,000-worth scholarship grant and is also one of the five recipients from Antique of the Philippine Army (PA) Cash Incentive worth P12,000.

The CSAFP grant is given to Advance ROTC cadets with exemplary academic performance or an average of not less than 95 rating, while the PA cash incentive is granted to those with academic performance of at least 88 rating.

During the turn-over ceremony held at SAC on January 9, Alejandro expressed her gratitude to the AFP for the scholarship grant, which she said, would be of great help to her family and her upcoming review for the Certified Public Accountant Licensure Exam (CPALE).

Aside from becoming a full-fledged accountant, she also shared her plans to take the Armed Forces of the Philippines Service Aptitude Test (AFPSAT) and undergo the Probationary Officer Training Course (POTC).

She said that her father - Police Executive Master Sergeant (PEMS) William V. Alejandro inspires her to be a member of the armed forces since he was also an Advance ROTC graduate and a former ROTC instructor, on top of being a devoted police officer.

When asked about his daughter’s plans after graduation, PEMS Alejandro said that their family is in full support of whether she pursues a civilian or uniformed service career.

Col. Crisanto C. Calit OS (GSC), Commander of the 6th Regional Community Defense Group, led the awarding rites and the distribution of 3,000 Subsistence Allowance (SA) and P5,000 PA Cash Incentive to other cadets.

He urged the recipients to strive in their education, continue to serve the country regardless of position, and become role models for their fellow youth.

In Antique, combining the grantees from SAC and the University of Antique, some 86 cadets received the SA allowance

while five were awarded the PA Cash Incentive.

Given the misconceptions revolving around ROTC, cadet Alejandro noted that the program is beyond just marching and doing physical activities as it helps mold students into well-rounded individuals useful to the community. (AAL/BPS/PIA Antique)
