La Trinidad sets activities for Bible Week celebration


LA TRINIDAD, Benguet(PIA)- The local government of La Trinidad   is set for the Bible Week celebration in the municipality this last week of January.

Mayor Romeo Salda recently  convened the  newly re-organized La Trinidad Bible Week Celebration Board  to discuss the  activities  for this year’s observance with the  theme,  “The Word Leads to the Way, the Truth, and the Life”  taken from the Book of John 14:6 and Isaiah 61:1-4.

The meeting was attended by religious sector thru the  La Trinidad Evangelical Association of Ministers, representatives from  different offices  of the LGU and some provincial offices of national agencies.  

Among the activities include the Run with Jesus around the municipality to be participated by residents from children to senior citizens on Saturday, January 28.   Prizes and tokens such as bibles and reading materials await the winners of the fun run.

The LGU is also dedicating the flag raising ceremony program on January 30 for the Bible Week celebration where local officials and other stakeholders and members of the religious groups and the community will have bible reading.

Salda said the LGU recognizes the importance of the Bible as a source of life-giving principles where core moral and spiritual values emanate.

The Sangguniang Bayan of La Trinidad thru Municipal Ordinance No. 28-2016 has  institutionalized the celebration of the La Trinidad Bible Week every last week of January and mandated the creation of a board to coordinate and plan the activities.  

The ordinance authored by then Councilor Roderick Awingan  stated that the celebration of the Bible Week seeks to introduce the transforming power of God’s word through all means possible like creating activities inculcating awareness and understanding of the importance of the Scriptures in nation-building. It will also encourage the opening of the Bible where values from the Word of God are embedded.

The Philippine Bible Society noted that the Holy Bible is regarded as a powerful book containing timeless principles that when heeded and obeyed can change a nation for the better.

Then President Rodrigo Duterte  signed on  January 5, 2017  Proclamation No. 124 declaring the month of January of every year as National Bible Month culminating in the last week as National Bible Week.(JDP/RMC-PIA CAR)
