BAGUIO CITY (PIA) -- Gender-based violence (GBV) cases in the Cordillera Administrative Region declined in 2022  based on the data of the Police Regional Office - Cordillera (PRO-Cor).

PRO-Cor Regional Women and Children Protection Desk chief PMaj. Marcy Grace Marron reported during the 1st quarter Regional Gender and Development Committee meeting that GBV cases in the region declined  by 9.98% compared to the GBV cases reported in 2021.

From the 651 GBV cases recorded in 2021, it declined to 586 in 2022.

Rape cases declined by 19.67% while child abuse declined by 19.28%. Violence Against Women and their Childre also decreased by 2.29% while the Photo and Video Voyeurism decreased by 71.43

Meanwhile, violation of Safe Spaces Act or the so-called Bawal Bastos Law has a notable increase of 100%, Trafficking in Persons increased by 60% while Act of Lasciviousness increased by 8.47%.

The City of Baguio reported the highest number of GBV cases with 192 followed by Benguet with 152, Ifugao with 67, Abra with 59, Kalinga with 61, and Mountain Province with 31.

Marron also reported 99.76% crime clearance efficiency and 74.45% crime solution efficiency.

"Yung crime cleared kasi, 'yun 'yung identified ang suspect, the case was filed in court, but the suspect was not arrested. Kapag sinabi rin nating crime solved, ang pagkakaiba lang nila dun is the suspect has been arrested," she  explained.

The WCPD chief noted that some of the cases were dismissed due to the lack of interest of the complainant to pursue the case, sufficiency of evidence, lack of probable cause, and death of the accused.

Marron assured that the PNP is continuously conducting advocacy campaigns to end GBV  including  educating  some elders that settling GBV cases in the barangay or community level is prohibited.

"We are still continuing naman 'yung info drive namin na bawal sa kanila 'yung mag-settle ng cases. Sa mga barangay, nile-lecture-an din naman namin 'yung mga barangay leaders," she stated. (JDP/DEG-PIA CAR)
