QUEZON CITY, (PIA) -- The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) will issue a separate rule specifically with parameters regarding the extension of the validity of the franchise of traditional jeeps in the country.
According to Joel Bolano, head of the LTFRB Technical Division, the Board is still studying the final date for the extension of the traditional jeep franchise.
"We will just wait for the final date to when the extension of their authority to operate will be up. This will be part of the new memorandum circular that we will issue very soon," Bolano said.
Drivers and operators who will undergo the Public Utility Vehicle Modernization Program (PUVMP) will be guided by the Office of the Transport Cooperative (OTC) in their participation in cooperatives or in the formation of their own corporation.
Bolano also clarified that the program aims to modernize the operation and the types of jeepney units used in the country.
"The objective of the PUVMP is to modernize and change the system in the transport sector, including fleet modernization or upgrading the units," Bolano emphasized. (PIA-NCR)
