VAWC cases drop in Capiz

ROXAS CITY, Capiz (PIA) -- Reported incidents of violation on Violence Against Women and their Children (VAWC) in the province dropped to 45 cases in 2022, lower than the 69 cases in 2021, based on records from the Capiz Police Provincial Office (CPPO).

CPPO Public Information Officer Maj. Ruby Magallanes, in an interview over a radio station here, said that the decrease in the violators of Republic Act 9262 or the “Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act of 2004” indicates that men are already aware of women's rights.

She added that usually liable for the violation are husbands, former husbands, boyfriend, ex-boyfriend, lesbian partner and any person concerned with a dating and or sexual relationship with a woman.

“Commonly committed by the perpetrators based on reported cases at the various local police station’s Women and Children Protection Desk are physical, psychological, sexual and economic abuses,” she noted, adding that abused women must not be afraid to report to authorities as there are a lot of government agencies that can help them on their concern.

During the interview, the CPPO spokesperson gladly revealed that no VAWC complaint against any policeman under the CPPO has been observed in the past year.

The CPPO will also kick off its National Women’s Month activities, March 6, to highlight the empowerment of women in the celebration. (JBG/AAL/PIA Capiz)
