Naga City (PIA) – The Camarines Sur Police Provincial Office (CSPPO) through its Police Community Affairs and Development Unit (PCAD) chief said on Friday, March 10, that its filed cases on violence against women and children have decreased about 45.74% percent for the first quarter of 2023 as compared last year.
PCAD Chief PLTCOL Nannie Precy Alcala said during the PIA Radio Cafe: Kapihan sa IDOL radio program over 101.5 Bicol IDOL FM Naga, that about 80 cases on violence against children were recorded from January to March 9, 2022, while only 47 cases were filed in the same duration this year.
Relatively, about 57 cases on violence against women were logged in 2022, while 47 were in 2023, still for the months of January to March.
Alcala said, that their program dubbed "Project Marikas" contributed to the reduced number of VAWC reports as the CSPPO intensified its directives for VAW-free communities in the province.
“Project Marikas formerly known as Project KASKAS or the Kapulisan asin Sosyodad Kontra Abusong Sekswal, is a program of the women and children’s protection desk which seeks to minimize crimes against them. This is also being implemented in all municipal police stations in Camarines Sur,” Alcala said.
The Camarines Sur Police Provincial Office (CSPPO) through its Police Community Affairs and Development Unit (PCAD) shares different programs and activities in line with the 2023 National Women's Month celebration.
Meanwhile, in line with the National Women’s Month celebration, Alcala said that gender and development symposiums, dialogues and visitations were set to take place in various municipalities in March. This activity aims to provide information on women empowerment and development in different barangays.
“Around 488 fellow police officers and lady non-uniformed personnel of the CSPPO also participated in the two-day mushroom production and processing livelihood project facilitated and sponsored by the Department of Agriculture Bicol. Aside from the skills, the DA also provided facilities to us,” Alcala said.
The mushroom livelihood initiative, according to PSSG Gerald Corporal of the PCAD Unit, would considerably assist the CSPPO in providing community outreach programs to several advocacy support groups, particularly the women's sector, by allowing them to share the knowledge they gained.
