ILOILO CITY (PIA) - - Senator Christopher “Bong” Go remains steadfast in his commitment to providing assistance to Filipinos in need, particularly those affected by disasters as he personally delivered aid to recovering typhoon Paeng victims in Passi City, Iloilo on March 12.

"Huwag po kayong magpasalamat sa amin, trabaho namin ‘yan. Kami po ang dapat magpasalamat sa inyo dahil binigyan n’yo po kami ng pagkakataon na makapagserbisyo sa inyo," said Go during his message.

Go and his team assisted 1,355 affected residents by handing out grocery packs, vitamins, masks, snacks, and shirts at the Passi 1 Central School Covered Court in Barangay Poblacion Ilawod, Passi City. They also distributed cellular phones, shoes, balls for basketball and volleyball, umbrellas, watches and bicycles to select individuals.

The establishment of the DDR seeks to ensure that the government can respond quickly and efficiently to any crisis or disaster. It would also help alleviate the negative impact of calamities and enable affected communities to recover faster.

Go has also filed two other bills aimed at protecting the lives of Filipinos during disasters that include SBNs 1181 and 193.

SBN 1181 seeks to set standards and benchmarks that all buildings and structures must meet to ensure their stability and integrity during disasters. This bill is crucial, especially in a country like the Philippines, where earthquakes and typhoons can cause extensive damage to buildings and infrastructure.

On the other hand, SBN 193 mandates the establishment of evacuation centers in every city, province, and municipality nationwide. It aims to provide safe, dedicated, and equipped evacuation centers for disaster-affected families. (JBG/laf/PIA6-Iloilo)
