CAMIGUIN (PIA)—Stepping up anti-crime measures to optimize tourist protection in the province, the Camiguin Police Provincial Office (CAM PPO) proposes the implementation of the Bantay Turista Information System.
CAM PPO Provincial Director PCol Elias Hampac said the online platform will “monitor the performance of all tourist activities, including accommodation and tourist movements, something that enables the platform to be an accredited center for statistics and data related to tourism.”
Proposed in 2022, this will also feature a virtual assistance desk that will be a feedback mechanism for tourists to use in submitting complaints, suggestions, or recommendations to improve their safety and security.
“With this system, once nga musulod ang isa ka turista (once the tourist comes in), whether a foreign or local tourist, mamonitor siya kung asa siya mupunta (we can monitor where he or she will go),” Hampac added.
CAM PPO also targets linking the info system to their current E-Warrant, which is a management tool in the effective and efficient accounting of not only the warrants of arrest but also of wanted persons.
Gov. Xavier Jesus Romualdo, for his part, wants to connect the system to the CleanCamiguin QR code system in the province. He also asked business owners to always scan the QR codes of their clients and customers so that the Bantay Turista Information System would be easy to use once it became operational.
Romualdo added that the system will also help keep track of people who gamble illegally. He used online betting as an example.
The Bantay Turista Information System is in line with the PNP’s digital transformation program—a basic element within the PNP Smart Policing initiative that gives importance to advanced digital infrastructure.
Hampac said that this is a basic need to make the economy more competitive and that it is an important part of how the economy works right now.
At the moment, CAM PPO is still working on the system to make sure that it will collect the right information and protect the privacy of tourists and locals. (RTP/PIA-10/Camiguin)
