San Juan, Abra COP is ‘PNP Juanas with Good Deeds 2023’ national awardee

SAN JUAN, Abra (PIA) –- The   Chief of Police   of San Juan Municipal Police Station (MPS) in Abra   is one of the 10 national awardees of the  "PNP Juanas with Good Deeds 2023".

She is Police Captain (PCpt.) Rebecca M. Bilog, a native of Sagada, Mountain Province and the only woman COP in the 27 municipal police stations in the province.

The “PNP Juanas with Good Deeds 2023” spotlights women in uniform who displayed exemplary performance in the campaign on anti-violence against women and their Children (VAWC), in line with the celebration of National Women’s Month.

Bilog was awarded for leading her  team  in the psychosocial and  financial support  to Maymalyn Bermillo Bicera, a resident of barangay Nangobongan and a    mother of five  and separated   from  her  husband.

“Noong iniwan  siya ng asawa niya, pinalayas na rin siya ng bayaw niya sa dating bahay nila, so pumunta siya dito sa station noong July para magpatulong,”  Bilog  shared.

That time, they were celebrating the Police-Community Relations  Month and she thought of helping Ms. Bicera to settle in a shelter of her own.

“We were able to generate  fund through the help of the personnel of this station so we raised a total of P8,500,” Bilog said. It was initially intended for temporary shelter but the initiative soon reached the attention of officials and other kind-hearted individuals who helped in building a concrete dwelling.

“For temporary lang sana iyon, peron in the long run, we were able to gain the attention of other stakeholders like si Mayor, BLGU in providing all that is needed so hindi nalang kawayan ‘yong bahay niya, made of concrete na ngayon,” Bilog   shared.

Cases on VAWC in the municipality of San Juan have also  significantly decreased since she became the COP.

“Patuloy lang ang information-education campaign natin dito sa San Juan para aware naman sila sa karapatan ng mga kababaihan, so we go to the different barangays here to introduce these information particularly RA 9262(VAWC  Act of 2004.),” Bilog said.

The MPS also lined up activities such as feeding  and community outreach program in celebration of Women’s Month. (JDP/CAGT – PIA CAR, Abra)
