GSIS: Avoid scams, don’t give banking information

NEGROS OCCIDENTAL (PIA) -- GSIS President and General Manager Wick Veloso warned government insurance members not to give their banking and e-wallet information to avoid getting scammed.

He said there had been recent attempts from scammers and fraudsters posing as GSIS employees over the phone or the Internet asking for members’ personal GSIS data.

“GSIS will never ask for our members’ and pensioners’ banking or e-wallet information. We strongly advise our members and pensioners against giving away personal information that would compromise not only their accounts but also their safety,” Veloso said in a press release.

Scammers have now been observed to be sophisticated in their manner of deceiving unsuspecting members using various platforms to get financial account information.

Poseurs request several data that may include the date of birth, one-time password (OTP), card verification value (CVV), personal identification number (PIN) and other unique information about their online banking accounts, the press release said.

GSIS assures that cyber security is in place in GSIS workplaces while members are promptly reminded of cyber swindlers.

To report an incident, GSIS can ve accessed thru its email at gsiscares@gsis.gov.ph, or call 8847-4747 (if inMetro Manila), 1-800-8-847-4747 (for Globe and TM subscribers), or 1-800-10-847-4747 (for Smart, Sun, and Talk ‘N Text subscribers). (AAL/Lljr/PIA6 Negros Occidental)
