LUNGSOD NG VIGAN, Ilocos Sur (PIA) – Inaasahang sisimulan ang pagsasaayos sa Vigan Cathedral dito sa siyudad na lubhang nasira dahil sa lindol noong Hulyo ng nakaraang taon na hanggang sa ngayon ay sarado pa sa publiko.

Ito ay ayon Jose “Bonito” Singson, Jr., alkalde ng lungsod, matapos ang kanyang pakikipagpulong sa National Commission on Culture and the Arts (NCCA), National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP), National Museum of the Philippines, at UNESCO National Commission of the Philippines (UNACOM) nitong Lunes, Abril 24.
 
 “We can move ahead with talking to our qualified engineers and architects to do a more in-depth study and present it to the church which should be part of any agreement we will make, considering that the Vigan Cathedral, in particular, is owned by the church,” sabi ni Singson.

Maliban dito, masayang ibinalita ni UNACOM Secretary-General Ivan Anthony Henares na mamimigay ng P6 milyon ang NCCA, sa pamamagitan ng Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority o TIEZA, para sa shoring o paglalagay ng support structure sa simbahan.

Isusulong din niya sa NCCA ang pagde-deputize ng Vigan Conservation Council na mangangasiwa sa proseso ng pagsasaayos sa simbahan.
 
“Once the Vigan Conservation Council is deputized, things can be done at the local level without the need to go through the bureaucratic process at the national government agency. I think that deputizing the Vigan Conservation Council is the best way to fast-track the restoration of the Cathedral. We hope that if that is approved in the next board meeting of NCCA, we can really move forward towards the actual work of the restoration of the Cathedral,” ani Henares.
