Isabela City kicks-off 'Chikiting Ligtas' vax drive, aims to immunize 95% by May

ISABELA CITY, Basilan, Apr. 25 (PIA) – The City Government of Isabela de Basilan through its City Health Office kicked-off, Tuesday, the nationwide "Chikiting Ligtas" campaign to protect children against Vaccine Preventable Diseases (VPDs) such as measles, rubella and polio.

Dr. Erica P. Jamanulla, Medical Officer IV of the Department of Health - Center for Health Development IX who attended the launching activity, emphasized in her message the importance of vaccination to prevent the spread of the diseases among children.

This is a critical time to prevent outbreak especially that we are still recovering from COVID-19 pandemic. To prevent the spread of these diseases we need to conduct mass vaccination],” she stressed.

Dr. Jamanulla also explained to the parents the possible risks of the diseases if not prevented.

Polio can lead to lifetime  paralysis. The rubella when you are pregnant, the effect on your unborn child may be severe and in some casess, fatal] ,” she emphasized.
