Malabon inoculates 1,602 children against measles, rubella, and polio

QUEZON CITY, (PIA) – The Malabon City Health Department vaccinated a total of 1,602 children aged 59 months and below against measles, rubella, and polio during the kick-off ceremony of the ‘Chikiting Ligtas Campaign’ in the city on Tuesday, May 2.

The community-based vaccination program of the city government is part of the nationwide supplemental immunization activity of the Department of Health (DOH) that mainly aims to immunize at least 95% of the Filipino children population aged 9 months to 5 years old in order to lessen their susceptibility to Vaccine Preventable Diseases (VPDs).

City Mayor Jeannie Sandoval led the routine immunization coverage at San Isidro Labrador in Barangay Potrero together with the members of the Philippine Red Cross Malabon Chapter and Malabon-Navotas Medical Society. First Gentleman and former Malabon City Representative Ricky Sandoval also joined the campaign to further encourage the parents to get their children vaccinated.

These vaccines are free, safe, and effective. That is why we encourage the parents to get your children vaccinated to ensure their safety),” the local government added.

According to the City Health Promotion Unit, parents can either bring their children to barangay health centers to secure the essential vaccines or wait for the health workers who will conduct the door-to-door immunization around the city.

Meanwhile, Mayor Sandoval convened the Local Health Board (LHB) on Wednesday (May 3) to discuss the preparedness of the city amidst the rising COVID-19 transmission in the country.

In relation to this, the local government is set to pass an ordinance that will strengthen the public health standards in the city including the mandatory wearing of face masks and getting vaccinated against the COVID-19 virus. (PIA-NCR)
