Pasig finishes 1st runner-up in 2023 NCR Regional Athletic Meet

QUEZON CITY, (PIA) – The sports delegates of Pasig City clinched the 2nd Overall Champion award in the recently concluded 2023 ‘Palarong Panrehiyon’ last April 24 to 28.

The Public Information Office (PIO) of the local government announced on Monday, May 8, that the representatives of the city ranked first runner-up in the overall results of both elementary and secondary levels of sports events.

In the course of the regional athletic meet, the Pasig sports team was able to deliver 26 gold medals, 22 silver medals, and 30 bronze medals for the elementary level competition.

The student athletes who competed for the secondary level of the games also took home a total of 41 gold medals, 21 silver medals, and 34 bronze medals which adds to the 14 medals that they bagged in the Paragames category.

Aside from these wins, 4 athletes from the arnis, archery, gymnastics, and swimming team were likewise hailed as ‘Most Bemedalled Athletes’ for receiving multiple medals of recognition in the various sports events. 22 delegates who participated in the elementary and secondary competitions were also conferred with special accolades during the athletic meet.

City Mayor Vico Sotto lauded the student athletes who actively represented the city in the regional sporting competition.

“Ang habol naman natin dito, hindi medalya. Ang habol natin dito magkaroon ng magandang mga karanasan o experience – life experiences ang ating mga atleta, ma-develop ang inyong character, ang inyong disiplina, excellence, teamwork (Our goal is not after the medals. Instead, we are inclined towards furnishing our athletes with life experiences that will hone their self-discipline, excellence, and sense of teamwork),” said Mayor Vico.

The conduct of NCR Palaro is an annual sports activity that aims to boost the morale and champion the athletic prowess of student athletes.

The winners of the regional meet are set to advance at the higher scholastic multi-sport competition, National Palarong Pambansa.  (PIA-NCR)
